    hey,

so ive applied for a lecturing position on an IT and the closing date was over 4 weeks ago now. Ive called HR twice and the lady i spoke to said that they were still screening cvs and that id hear by the end of the week (last fri)....sooo what now.? i cant call again as they'll think im too pushy but i need to know what the story is.

yes i know theres a posibilty i havent made the cut but surely they'd send out an email to tell me

is a four week wait normal for an IT?
would i be pushing it if i called them again?

No it's not long to wait.

Yes it would be a bit pushy, it's likely HR are dependant on lecturers to review cvs and those lecturers are currently tied up marking exams given the time of year.

To me, calling again would at a very superficial level, indicate that you may not be a suitable candidate as you don't understand the workings of the college year. I'm not saying you don't, but it could be interpreted that way and put a bad slant on your application

From experience, I would say if they have not contacted you by now then you probably did not make the cut.

Not every potential employer will send out an email stating if you have made the cut or not. I would agree that it is polite to do so but more often then not, it is not done.

    Hope that helps

Clare - perhaps you're experienced in this area, in which case please ignore the following:

If you haven't got at least a very good Masters (and know someone in the IT itself who will champion your cause) with decent lecturing/training experience then it's going to be tough. (I understand that almost all IT's want you to have started a PhD.)

You really need to stand out from the crowd to be considered - do you have major experience in a cutting edge part of your subject? Have you published? Have you done/achieved anything that would make them think you're WOW?

You'll be up against serious competition for the role - even p/t evening roles are like gold dust.

I hope I'm wrong and that it goes well for you, but my own (and several friends) experiences suggest otherwise...
