Title of thread says it all. How many times can you patch a tube?

I have a few tubes with 2-3patches on them but think I read somewhere that 2 is max as any more can cause tube to fail. Anyone heard this before or did i just imagine it?

    Cheers

As many times as you wish as long as you don't overlap patches.

I remember being out for a spin with a guy who was a regular race winner. He had a puncture and when he removed the punctured tube, I was amazed to see no less than seventeen patches.

Back in the 1970's, when I was a child and had no money, I had 26 patches on a tube (all discreetly taken over time from my oul lad's saddlebag). I use to hope he wouldn't puncture!

I wonder if you can build a tube out of patches alone(and obviously the valve)

as long as the punctures arent large gashes you can have as many as u like, the age of the tube and how much rain exposure it has would indicate when to throw it out, rubber rots over time

Does it matter what pressures you run?

The only time I've ever seen a properly applied patch lifting, was on the rear wheel of a bike used on a turbo trainer. The heat generated caused the glue to melt.

    Once I hit 3 patches/punctures on a tube it's binned. They're cheap to buy and I don't trust patches.
