I notice a lot of US ad's have 'Black plate' on California cars meaning they're original CAL registered (= no rust ) as distinct from 'imports' from other states that might have rust issues. So the US enthuiast is as fussy about original v's imported cars as we are.

Ya but they're fussy cause they know a Cal car from new has a good chance of being rust free where as an Irish car from new wouldn't hold any extra attraction for me , the only difference between a clean irish or import is a number plate which has nothing to do with the car IMO , after all the car manufacturer has nothing to do with what plate goes on the car .

Northern dealer said to me once - 'UK cars have corroded brake lines and rust from the salt on the roads, Southern cars have shot suspension / structure issues from all the pothole/boreens they've been driven into. So every country has different 'weak points' to look out for ;)
