I've no idea why I got this?

I'm employed by a company and have no other income.

I haven't claimed anything either from revenue.

So why did I get this to fill out?

Some are sent out randomly and some are targeted. Once you receive it you must complete it. Ensure you add in any additional incomes such as dividends and deposit interest etc.

You do NOT have to complete it.

Send it back with a one line note that says

    Paye employee. No non-paye income.

Section 879 TCA would disagree, and it is referred to on the front page of the form 12:
NOTICE: YOU ARE HEREBY REQUIRED, UNDER SECTION 879 TAXES CONSOLIDATION ACT 1997, BY THE INSPECTOR OF TAXES NAMED ABOVE TO PREPARE AND DELIVER, ON OR BEFORE 31 OCTOBER 2014, A TAX RETURN ON THIS PRESCRIBED FORM FOR THE YEAR 1 JANUARY 2013 TO 31 DECEMBER 2013.

Revenue pick people at random, have 'projects' which looking at particular industries and they also look at various items you may be claiming or the amount of interest you receive from the bank etc.

Incorrect. Form 12 (Employees, Pensioners & Non–Proprietary Directors) must be completed and returned, unless the person qualifies for Form 11.

Or the OP will be subject to:
Civil Penalties/Criminal Prosecution - Tax law provides for both civil penalties and criminal sanctions for the failure to make a return, the
making of a false return, facilitating the making of a false return, or claiming tax credits, allowances or reliefs which are not due. In the event
of a criminal prosecution, a person convicted on indictment of an offence may be liable to a fine not exceeding €126,970 and/or to a fine of
up to double the difference between the declared tax due and the tax ultimately found to be due and/or to imprisonment.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

Friend got one too, but he reckons its something to do with Rental Income, as this was specifically highlighted in bold. He only owns one property though, the one he is living in.

He was advised to fill out everything that applies to him.

I agree with Barney above and this is the approach we take with clients if they get them.

So for people with all earnings under the PAYE system you are basically giving them back information they already have. Dunno where that P60 is, so I have to call them for information that I will be sending them back.
    Efficiencies my arse.

Its quite simple really. These random sample form 12 tax returns ensure that overall that the PAYE Income Tax system is functioning correctly. Every industry has to conduct tests on their systems to ensure they work as they are supposed to.

Also as a general note, Revenue may not have details of your previous years pay and tax on file. They do not pay ypur wages and are reliant on your employer being up to date with their returns.

Fair enough, of course the P60 comes from the employer, not revenue, silly me!
I just love paper work as you can tell:)

The physical form is a minefield. Best to fill out online if you have PAYE Anytime. This way most of your information is populated and on record.

I just got one of these forms as well , I am a landlord , began in 2013 ! I have one question , I know I can write off 75 % of mortgage interest but at the time of building I couldn't get a top up (6 years ago ) and had to finish with a 35 000 loan .. Can the interest from this be written off also ? As well I see 12 and a half percent can be written off for depreciation of furniture and fittings ! How would you go about calculating this now , their value ! I was forced to move out and rent as could t afford mortgage etc ! Thanks

That is the whole point of it. Many PAYE workers do have other incomes, and the revenue want to find out in order to tax this.

    I got one too.
The webite said they were sending it out to a large number of individuals.
Filled it out online in about 2 mins.
They had all my pay and tax already filled out for me on the form :pac:

    I received a form too.

I receive share dividends and pay the tax using the PAYE anytime system. So I assume that's the reason I received the form.

Anyway I filled out the online "eForm 12" and it was painless, all the correct information was already there.

    So hopefully that's that.
