    Hi guys,

Could i ask a kindly soul to design me a system for me?

The only stipulations i have are:
GPU must be GTX770 or better.
Storage: 500GB/1TB HDD + 128/256gb ssd. Smaller, faster storage is preferred.

    Cheers lads,

    CC.

    1. What is your budget? €1500-1600

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes 7 64bit premium or 8.1 64bit.

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No

    5. Do you need a monitor? Yes. 24-26inch

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? I need a keyboard and a mouse (logitech g400/g500 are favourites of mine. I also would like a sound card, and a card reader.

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes. Mildly only though.

Sorry this is probably a little over budget and I'd say you could easily manage with a cheaper board but this one has great overclocking potential and decent onboard sound so no need for a discrete soundcard. Some of the others should be able to trim down the budget and improve it as well.

All these prices have the geizhals trick applied, just add a keyboard, something like this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B00C67C79C/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1403016938&sr=1-4&keywords=cm+storm+quickfire+tk

and a copy of windows which you can get really cheaply here:
    http://www.reddit.com/r/softwareswap/

That board was able to take a 4770k to ~4.6Ghz comfortably in reviews so you may be able to get even more out of a 4790k with a little luck.

I'm ambivalent about the cooler, I was using one myself until I got a custom water loop and I would say it is great value for money compared to a closed loop liquid cooler.

The only problem is it's a real pain to install and takes up a huge amount of space in the case making working on the build tedious once it's in.

You might be better off just getting a hyper 212 evo and do a more conservative overclock and pocket the difference in price.

The 780 is also within budget but you'd get much more bang for buck from a radeon 290 or going down to a 770, it just seems a bit overpriced.

There's no discrete soundcard in the build but the onboard one is pretty good and comes with a headphone amp so should be good if you mean to use it with audiophile headphones.

    Hi,

Cheers for the build! Looks brilliant.

1/3rd of the build price for just the GPU is a bit of an ask, so i may downgrade that to the gigabyte 770 (€280).

Its a steep premium for the 4790 vs the 4770 (€50) extra, for 0.1 ghtz more stock speed.

All in all, the €200 saved from the two above i could use to upgrade the screen, get a keyboard and os.

What do you reckon? Make sense?

Note i have no prior knowledge of building systems, so please correct me if i'm wrong anywhere!

Yeah the 780's are just overpriced imo. Hwvs did have a cheap 780 ghz edition which traded blows with a 780ti a while back but have since upped the price so i don't think any of them are really priced fairly now.

The 4790k is more directly comparable to the 4770k which comes in at €282,50 after geizhals ~€16 difference. The highlight of these devils canyon chips are the improved TIM underneath the heat spreader and additional capacitors on the chip itself to improve power delivery for overclocking.

Generally they should hit higher clocks with lower temps without the need to delid and have that slight boost in stock clocks like you said. I don't know how well the released consumer versions will stack up to expectations but the review samples seem to clock pretty well.

If you were thinking of maybe dropping down to the 4770 non-k and not overclocking at all you could try some of the socket 1150 xeons.
They are identical to the non-k 4770 but without the integrated graphics chip and are much cheaper.

That'd also let you drop down to a h97 board and remove the need for an aftermarket cooler

Personally I'd go with addles original build.

Keep the 780. If you have the budget why not. That said a 770 is not a bad card either. You will get high to ultra most games.

I'm getting Ultra in every game with my gtx670 in my current machine.

Herself will be inheriting this box.

The 770, is just chasing after the mega framerates tbh.
