Say for arguments sake you were capable of 40km/h at peak years 25-35

How much do you slow down at 40,50,60

    Ballpark with consistent training?

Depends how hard you were training when younger.

All things being equal it's the top end that goes first: sprinting and then VO2Max.

There are some savage vets around well over 60 but I guess they were starting from a very high base.

    Then there's always time trials...

If you aren't at elite level, I had read you can actually keep improving until your late 50s. As a largely endurance and cardio sport your body continues to adapt and improve with the right training.

I'm now into my 40s but am definitely faster & putting out more power than I did 5-10 years ago. Part of it is training smarter as I read & listen more.

I think it's one of the many attractions of cycling to us middle-aged folk, you can continue to improve and set all important PBs on Strava.
