Last week, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the Californian automaker would turn its entire patent library open source, making Tesla plans, technology and schematics open to anyone who wanted to use them ‘in good faith’.

Three days later, it appears two of Tesla Motors’ biggest rivals — Nissan and BMW — are looking to co-operate on charging networks and charging technology.

Is Tesla’s Supercharger standard about to become the industry standard?
That’s according to the Financial Times (subscription required), who says that both Nissan and BMW are keen to enter into a joint agreement to build and maintain charging networks that Tesla, BMW, and Nissan owners could use.

I really do admire what Tesla are doing, particularly their supercharger network seems to be far more advanced than what Nissan have at the moment. I wonder though if you were looking at buying a Nissan or BMW EV, would you buy now or wait for your Nissan/BMW to come with with a Tesla Supercharger port?

Or buy a hideously overpriced Supercharger adapter? CHAdeMO in reverse?
