Unusual Insurance query

Hi, does anyone know the best cover for multiple vehicles (10+)

All private vehicles ie. not a company - some modern, some classic, some vintage cars and a privately taxed van.

I believe 'fleet' insurance will not suit as this is mainly for business and commercials.

And 'trade' insurance will only be suited if you are actually in the motor trade

(although we do classic restorations and minor repairs to our own and other vehicles part time outside the main 9-6 job but not a registered business and no Vat no.)

Just looking to see if anyone has ideas before I ring about

    Any help would be great

Contacting a broker would be your best bet.

That's my plan shortly, but its always worth being armed with some information before I ring

10+ cars may be a bit tricky but try
    www.google.com/search?q=multi+car+insurance+site:.ie
and see if you get a hit that way.

Biko - I have looked into that while quoting around last year and unfortunately its not a great policy for me. Cannot add on vintage cars or van

Who is the "we"? If the vehicles are registered in different individual names, you cannot insure them collectively

So are you trying to run a business but without it being official? If so there is no way any insurance company will go near you especially if your in the repair/restore end of it. I'd say if you make your business official you would get something.

It really comes down to; do you need to insure the classics that you're working on, or not? I'm guessing you do, in case you screw up, but it seems you want to skirt around it in case it brings unwanted attention from Revenue somehow.

The 'we' is me and my wife ,

And no I am not trying to bring unwanted attention from the Revenue, what a ridiculous statement to make. I stated a few times that it is private and not a business.

The minor repairs would be that I look after a few friends classic/vintage cars ie. keeping them running and up to scratch and they then help me by doing other jobs, No cash involved just a few mates helping each other

I think it is fair to say that when you used the phrases 'part time' and 'outside the main job', posters were more than reasonable in assuming you earn money from them.

'part time outside the main job' meant that after I come home from work , I would spend a few hours at my own restorations or if a mate was in bother I would sort whatever problem if I could.

Im not the tax fraud you are trying to make me out to be, I just have a lot of cars and am trying to get info on how to insure them properly rather than transferring all the time

I never mentioned anything about you earning money from this, I just let you know why I thought some posters took a certain approach when responding to your query

More "hobby" than part-time job in that case.

Note that if we think it, there's a good chance the bank will also think it, and assume you're doing a part-time job in your back lawn. Perhaps rephrasing what you say to the broker will ensure you get what you desire?

My broker is calling back before 5 today, he said he has seen similar circumstances before and he should have good news for me this evening

Check with someone in the same line of business/hobby and ask them who they go through?

But they are a business and that's why the OP is having difficulty getting cover
