    Hi
Lately I've noticed a slowdown in the performance of my laptop from the time I hit the <enter> button until the information pops up.

Just wondering if there's anything I can do to improve the performance or maybe there's a cookie/virus I should clear out.

    Any advice gratefully received.

    Thank you

    Hi
Just following on from my previous question.

PDF docs are now beginning to slow down when I try to open it up.
It just says "Adobe Reader not responding"
Word is also a bit slow to open, but Exel opens quick enough.

I've done a full system scan and no viruses/threats have shown up.
I have roughly 50% space still left on my hard drive,

    Any advice gratefully received.

    Thank you

Go through your installed programs and uninstall any unwanted ones.
Download CCleaner and clean your registry and check how many programs start up when your laptop starts you should be able to disable some of them.
Check your antivirus is up to date and do a full computer scan.
Download Malware Bytes and do a check with this.

Whats you computer brand,RAM size etc. ?

    Hi Clinton
CCleaner advertises as a FREE download, but when you go into it - it wants a payment of €20.00.
Are there any "really" FREE downloads??

You seem to have caught this forum napping apart from Clinton.
There's usually a number of people posting solutions.

Direct Downloads (Click on them to start download)

CCleaner - Download and Run Cleaner and Registry Cleaner.

In "Tools" Go to "Startup" and Disable pretty much everything from Starting with the PC.

MalwareBytes - Download, update and run Threat Scan.
Spybot S&D - Download, Update Definitions and Check System

There are probably a lot of programs you could uninstall but uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader and install Foxit Reader instead.

When you have done all of the above, Download and run Defraggler and leave it running while you're not using the PC.

You probably have automatic Defrag enabled, but often it is set to defrag when the PC is idle, and at 3AM, in both instances, your PC may be off.

That should make at least a small improvement on the speed.
There could be any number of things slowing the computer down..

You could backup any important files and then do a factory restore.
It removes all installs/files you added and puts it back to the way you purchased it.
