What The Hell Is In The Air?

I spent a fair chunk of Thursday giving the car a typical maintenance wash. I even went a little bit further and gave the arches and underbody a quick blast and afterwards I was happy. Paint was smooth, protection was good and the car once more looked rather well. I've been ill over the last week so it took a lot of energy to get this done. The car was parked in my driveway and hasn't moved since.

I came out this morning and just happened to run the back of my fingers along the paint and I was horrified. It was like bloody sandpaper. The horizontal panels have been affect the worst but there's evidence on the doors and wings too. I clayed the top of my boot lid to see how bad it was and this was what came off just the top it...

I'm not parked under or really near any trees and the car is quite sheltered beside the house but I'm absolutely raging over it. Is there something in the air again - like the Saharan dust - that I'm not aware of? I don't have the energy to tackle it this weekend but will try another wash next week if I can. It really makes me wonder why we even bother trying some days. Even when we have good weather here, we can't seem to win!

Any tips for preventing / safely removing this? I'll likely go with a long dwell on the snowfoam and a two bucket wash to get rid of most of it. It's long overdue a correction anyways but want to get paint on it first. All thoughts / similar experiences / advice welcome!

    Shoot your neighbours!!

Were they having a BBQ recently??

Snowfoam and a gentle two bucket wash will sort it out!

Oh, I'll shoot them but for other reasons...

No BBQs of note as most of my neighbours are elderly so I'm stumped at the moment.

Christ I hate owning a black car.

Would it have come off the roof during any rain? I am surprised by that

You've got me too - was pretty confident with the BBQ suggestion!
Wouldnt exactly have to be next door...if you were down wind, it could have been a few house away!

Try a dark green one for size, the thing is a magnet for dirt, and you can really see it, like black it looks lovely when it's clean though :P
