    Hi all
    I have been having problems with my solicitor. They are very slow to inform me of any updates to my case,
    and outright refuse to take any calls or emails from me. I realise they are limited by third parties in
    some cases but it feels like I am being completely ignored.

    After being unable to resolve these issues amicably with my solicitor I am seriously considering lodging a complaint to the law society. Has anyone in a similar situation had dealings with them,and if so,what should I expect/have prepared?

    It's likely you'll find it a frustrating process, as it's quite slow.

    They'll assess the urgency and importance of your complaint first. They may not find you have good enough grounds.

    Either way, they'll have to write to your solicitor to get his story, and if he drags his heels, things can progress very slowly. They won't do anything till they have gone through this back-and-forth process, unless it's an extremely urgent Lynn/Byrne type scenario.

    So your solicitor can stall things considerably. Best bet might be to inform your solicitor that you intend to contact the Law Society, and see if that provokes a reaction.

    Could you not change solicitor or is it too far along in your case to do that.

    We have repeatedly threatened the solicitor with a complaint at this stage but this hasn't moved the process along to any great extent. Their responses to our questions are extremely aggressive in nature and the relationship has soured beyond repair at this point. We would consider changing solicitors now but are concerned that we would incur twice the costs in doing so. The whole process has been extremely frustrating and upsetting and we feel we have nowhere else to turn.

    If you are unhappy change solicitors. Citing cost as a factor significantly undercuts your complaint

    You will not incur 2 sets of costs, your new solicitor can agree with you to discharge the first solicitor for the work to date if you are not happy with bill you can get it taxed by the taxing master or county reg. then you will only have to pay second solicitor for the work he does from then on.
