Out at lunch for a trip to the shops and one peculiar thing I noticed which never struck me before….

…the amount of people standing outside restaurants showing off their menus and trying to entice people inside. Probably the most annoying part of any sun holiday we have gotten a glimpse of the sun and now think we’re all living in Turkey.

Believe me, it doesn't only happen in Turkey. Personally I won't go into an Irish restaurant that has pictures of the food, it's bound to be bad. In the resort I frequent in Gran Canaria I don't care as they all do it.

This is a recent thing in Temple Bar. Solution: avoid tourist-trap areas.

No, this being Ireland, its Santa Ponsa they think they're in.

on my travels, any time i have allowed someone hawking for business to convince me to eat/stay/drink in their establishment, it turned out to be a bad idea. places with good food/atmosphere/facilities do not send some poor unfortunate out on the street to hoodwink passersby.

    Why are you shouting?

When they ask me to look at their menu I'm tempted to just glance it over and say "That is a nice menu, well done!" and walk on.

That being said I have started to notice people using the "waist push" here. That's where someone tries to gently push you in to their restaurant by putting their arm around your waist.

Still not as bad as Jerusalem though. Someone tried the waist push on me and my wife. I jumped back causing them to fall and land on their arse and I was told "YOU ARE A VERY BAD PERSON!!!"

Yes poor show on those businesses trying to drum up trade. How dare they try to make a few euro? Let them fold I say. A nice boarded up shop front is just as attractive as a busty waitress* shoving a menu in your face.

    * Disclaimer : The busty waitress may only exist in my mind

He's not shouting since it isn't capitalised. But that size font can only be used by Brian Blessed.
