Gardai told me my broken down car will be towed.

My lovely Toyota Hilux was having mechanical problems and was losing power. I decided to pull over as I was fearful it would cut out on a country road. I pulled onto gravel in front of a house on a slight bend. I could not risk driving to a straight section of road. I went to the house to explain to the house owner my situation and he insisted on driving us to Town,
As we exited from his driveway I could see his line of sight was restricted as My car was on gravel but of the road.
Tonight the Gardai rang me and said they had complaints about my vehicle being left there since last night and I should move it now or it would be towed.
I explained that I had no choice but to park there and had arranged to move it tomorrow. They initially insisted I move it now but eventually agreed, afetr I told them that I had spoken to the house owner, to let me move it tomorrow.

What I am wondering is can the Gardai take my car, which in mY view was parked out of neccesity and is of the road edge but arguably blocking the line of sight from the house further down the road,

If it's parked in a manner which could be dangerous them yeah, they can move it

Of course the can tow it and it will be at your cost including storage charges.

Your pickup might be the love of your life but its not for those who live where you abandoned it.

It only takes one person to complain.
If you where fully on private ground it would have to be the land owner if its on public ground or part of the road then any member of the public. Once safety is called into question the garda don't have a choice they have to act.

I think the garda are being more than fair.
The person who made the complaint maybe less so.

Whether it broke down or was recklessly abandoned is neither here nor there, if it's a danger to other traffic the Gardai have a duty to get it moved to protect the public.

If it's on a public road causing an obstruction or a danger to road users, yes they can.

If it's on private property, no.

Maybe some curtain-twitcher in the neighbourhood didn't like the look of it, and got her nephew in the local station to give you some words of "encouragement". :D
