    Hey
I'm really into fitness and have always trained at home until now. Really want to get into a gym now for summer for a moderate price. I'm seriously into bodyweight, cross fit style stuff. I have no interest in cardio stuff or using machines.
I've looked into the warehouse gym as they have a great cross fit area but its just located In too much an inaccessible place for me.

It would be even better if someone could point me towards a bodyweight park or somewhere where that stuff can be done in galway.

Somewhere in the city or knocknacarra would be best.
    Thank you very much

Look into Galway City Gym. It's near Liosbain Industrial Estate on the Team Rd

The planet do cheap student offers, seem to be a decent enough gym from what I hear. Don't know of any bodyweight parks in the city. The warehouse gym really would be right up you're street though, great facility, where in galway are you based?

Im in knocknacarra. The problem with the warehouse gym is that I need to get a bus to whatever gym I'm going to and the warehouse is way way out from me. The planet,is that just classes and personal training or an open gym?,I haven't heard of it before

It's an open gym down by Tesco on the Headford Rd. Another poster, JJayoo, would be able to tell you more because he was there, according to his log, earlier this week.

That sounds interesting I'll check it out. Has anybody used the nuig kingfisher gym?I could get a student rate there

I was in the NUIG Kingfisher gym today. Student rate is 250. They have just fixed the floor and added in a giant new cable rig thing. The gym will be pretty quiet over the summer as the students are away.

Is there a three month membership? they're insisting I call them for prices and I don't want that you can't say no when being pressured like that. Cable rig thing? Is that like trx stuff or what?

I think the kingfisher is 12 months only. Its a complaint of the students that there is no shorter term possible.

12 months, hahaha must suck then if your only in galway for the academic year!! Anyway I'll check it out, I'm trying to find a way to the warehouse gym if I can. Does any bus that you know of go past it?

There is a park in doughiska next to merlin woods that has body weight equipment in it. It might be awkward to get to from knocknacarra.

There is a free park run 5k every Saturday morning 9.30am in cappagh park, not sure if that's of any interest to you. Register online at parkrun.ie

Haha ya I wouldn't have a clue where anywhere is on that side of the city. I'm not training for that distance but it would definitely help with the aerobic stuff for me as I'm primarily a sprinter, thanks for that bit of information

I've seen buses on that road so there must be a stop nearby. I'll keep an eye out.

The 403 would be your best bet.

You mentioned as well being into cross fit, there's a box in Galway, Corrib Crossfit it's called, it's somewhere in woodquay. don't know how suitable it would be for a student budget though.

There's a place beside monkey business and also what about nrg in the clybaun hotel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,050 ✭✭✭EmcD123

From what I've heard ,NRG doesn't really have any of the things I'm looking for, very few places unfortunately. And in NRG they don't seem to have an option to just have membership for the gym, its also a lot more expensive.

The 403 bus goes out by the warehouse gym. Saw it last night on the way home.

Are you one of those old creepy men who rides around on the bus all day?

Yes but mostly in Dublin for the free WiFi.
