Sadly only some races. They are trying to improve though, by showing a separate pit lane feed on the red button this time.

Pity about the hoovers going round the track, it's a sport that's dead to me having been a fanatic 20 years ago

Didn't like the sound either at first but it's nice to hear the tyre squeal and turbos winding up/down. Now if only the Mercs would breakdown a bit more often to give the others a chance;)

Technically not a switch I guess but Sky Sports 5 HD can be added to the list of channels not available anywhere but an official box.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭hallo dare

Sky Sports 5 SD available on alternative box.

That's expected, I'm getting the SD version here too, it's only the HD that uses this new encryption and therefore we don't get it (never did)

True - ALL the SDs are available outside the official box, if they could stop Sky Sports 5 in SD they'd do it for all SD channels.

There is NO discussing card sharing or any other means of pirating systems

I have a legit sky sub and use a "pirate box" because it offered 10 times the functionality of a sh1tty Sky box, so not everyone here is a "pirate"

but yes you can no longer use a Sky card or cardshare to view HD channels in a 3rd party box as they have now been paired to an official sky box

Ill just add to what others have said.

Using my Sky card in my Vu Duo allowed me to have an EPG that gave me all the UK channels such as BBC 1, ITV sat alongside my Irish Sky channels using one EPG. I could move around the channels anyway I liked which in turn allowed me to remove the channels I didnt want and let me have a decent channel setup instead of the EPG mess that Sky give us.

A big plus was that our Irish Sky Subs actually unlock ITV 2HD, ITV3HD, ITV4 HD and BBC News HD but because Sky Boxes dont allow you to tune in certain Frequencies you cant avail of these extra HD channels.

There are/were so many advantages of using alternative boxes which many of us paid good money for that wasn't for pirate use.

now I have to flix between two boxes to watch TV, pretty pathetic if you ask me.

SD won't be going for some time yet, a card change sometime next year may be the final nail in the coffin but who knows.

SD Sports now at a pathetic 704x576i - that's heading towards RTE SD on 28e which is near analogue quality.

A man with your knowledge should know the best SD is 720 x 576 ;)

704x576 is an ITU standard for 4:3 broadcast output.

Anyhow, its the bit rate that will dictate the quality , not the aspect ratio.

When was Sky Sports reduced out of interest? ;)

Other SD flagship Sky channels (like Sky1, Sky Atlantic) now at 544 x 576 and have been for some time - I can see Sky Sports being reduced to that resolution as soon as Sky Sports 1 HD goes :)

as saorview is not available everywhere and people use that as its easier then setting up soarsat on a different satellite

Why would anyone with a dish and the Irish channels on their Sky subscription have an ugly aerial on their roof? ;)

That's not everybody ;) (Probably not even a huge percentage either, in fact I don't know anyone happy with just Irish TV on their extra TVs to be fair)

    Aerials are beautiful.

No more ugly than a rusting Sky Dish.

Most dishes are (or can be) hidden at the back of a house and out of sight,

Certainly not the case for aerials.

I was being facetious anyway, anybody with any level of Sky subscription does not need an aerial - ugly or beautiful.

Unless they have more than one tv, which is nearly always the case nowadays, even for the older generation. And I know plenty happy with just Saorview on a second tv, others Saorview with an rf from the sky box

is this like when those Starview boxes got knocked off; but this sounds a bit more substantial when it comes to the cat catching the mouse.

or have it wrong and only a matter of time before something else comes out to get around satellite encryption methods?

there is rumour going around from a reliable source that Sky HD has been cracked by some Lithuanian server

I find this hard to believe but seeing is believing though
