Apartment Insulation above Ceiling

Basically have a 3rd floor apartment. Above me is a penthouse apartment with a large patio area. The patio is directly over my kitchen /living room. Anyway there was a leak and I got a plumber in to investigate. Turns out it was from the patio. The plumber cut a hole in our ceiling. So i stuck my head in yesterday and there is only a small bit of insulation around the outer wall. None above my ceiling. Is this normal. There is only about 10inch space between ceiling and concrete.

There should be insulation but there is a possibility that the insulation might be above the concrete slab you are looking at.

At the moment with a leak the insulation is a smaller worry than the water-tightness. Solve the leak and then you can add in insulation and moisture control membranes as appropriate as part of the sealing back up works.

    What age is the apartment?

Thanks Drift. Leak is being fixed by management company. You maybe right about the insulation. I will ask the builders when they are fixing the leak. The apartment is about 6 years old.

In 2008 it would have been a fairly major omission to have no insulation at all in that section so there is a possibility there is some above the slab .... of course in the boom times with certain contractors/developers "omissions" were par for the course.

AS its paving its fairly likely that they used a waterproof system like trocal or parlon and insulated under the paving.
