I have a Land Rover Discovery 3 (HSE V8) and the tyres which are on it are nearly 5 years old. I bought the car last year and use it at weekends and the odd long (5 hour) motorway drive.

Can anyone please recommend a good tyre for it (19')? I have been told Pirelli Scorpion ATR however the cheapest quote I can get here is 270 euro a tyre.

Its mainly motorway driving with a bit of deep sand driving say 5 times a year.

    Cheers in advance

I live abroad now, sadly I cant get them shipped as the cost would be nuts.

How would cooper AT's feel on a long drive?

There's a shop here trying to get me to fit Bridgstone Duelers. I had them on a prado years ago and thought they were a bit suspect on road.

Also, I think you have to have the spare for the Cooper flat as it would fit otherwise. Not ideal.

I would share your dislike of the Bridgestone Dueler, they're ok, but not great in the wet. I run Michelin Latitude Cross on my Landcruiser, and after nearly 60k miles they are great. Rears have 7mm tread left, fronts still have 4mm. Not sure if they come in 19" though. No point in trying to get an AT tyre for road use only - less efficient and a bit noisier

Cheers, I don't live in ireland, i will price the Bridgestone Duelers, the Pirellis are coming out at 260 euro a tyre so at this stage I will try anything.

I like the hse spec of the lr3 but I dont like 19" wheels.

If it was my lr3 id put the wheels up for a sale swap for another lr3 alloy of maybe 16".

That way big meaty tyres too for the 16s and a bit cheaper when it comes to changing them.

    But thats just me.

    I just checked mine and they are 255 60 19 not 255 55 19. I am clueless, would 255 55 19 fit mine?

you mean 255 50 19 as no such size in a 60 I pretty sure?

my favourite all-rounder 4x4 tyre by a country mile. :D

well, technically, the "BF Goodyear All-Terrain T/A K.O." to be precise, but they're awesome either way all year round in any terrain. :)

Just put a set of Cooper Zeon 4xs on my Disco3 HSE, same wheels but the right size tyres are 255/55/19. I am impressed so far (only 1k miles), may be in part to the sure footedness of the Disco3. With the terrain response in the D3, the choice of tyre is a little less important in terms of light off roading.

Are you sure its not 255/60R18 ?

Defo 255 60 19. I will throw a picture up later. They are from 2008!! And in this heat that is really not good. I would love a set of Coopers but they are difficult to get if not impossible out here.

The reason I ask is according to any reference book I have to hand 255/60R19 is not an OE size on the Discovery.

VeVex, I feel like bit of a fool, I went to a local dealer who said he had only 255 55 R19. My car as I said has 60 R19 but do to my lack of knowledge and fear of being given the wrong tyres I turned down the tyres and was hoping to source 60 R19.

I think I will go back and have a chat if that is the size recommended for the car. Cheers.
