Can the garda track my phone?

I had my phone stolen and have reported it to the guards, but to be honest I don't think I will hear any more on the matter, but if I go to them again, can I ask if they can get a location on my phone? I mean, surely they have the equipment. Or would it be a waste of time to ask them this?

Can they - probably. Will they - almost certainly not. The various technical departments are up to their eyes at the moment.

Do you have access to tracking on the phone?

It will only be pinged in cases of a threat to life. Even then they will only get a mast location. Getting exact coordinates requires the cooperation of the phone companies. However if you have an iphone tracker app or similar they will go looking for it in the area.

In the US, as per an Ars Technica article, they have the ability to track a phone to a room. Given the similarities in network, should be possible here with the same technology. However given the call on Guard's resources, even if had equipment then may not be a priority.

Yeah that's true, but I agree, it's not obviously going to be a priority
