How your behaviour here on boards differs from your physical world behaviour

To start the ball rolling my own behaviour in After Hours is snarkier and if I don't like a single sentence that another boardsie types I ignore them. Also I have a great taste for shadenfroid or 'cold joy' for some posters in AH and in prison forum. In the real world gugleguy is such a nice guy. How about you?

For me it boils down to a strong sense of empathy. If my vocalised words in real life would upset someone it stands to reason that the same words typed here would upset them. Just because I am now anonymous here, not in danger of a negative physical reaction from them, can't see the real life cues that I have upset them etc doesn't mean that its now OK to upset them or doesn't mean that I don't now know that I could have upset them just because I no longer have visual cues to go on.

IMHO, people who show no empathy online actually have very little empathy IRL either and the only reason they don't spend their real life rubbing people the wrong way or upsetting them or that their friends and family don't know the extent of their selfish annoying pr1ckishness is that there are real consequences to doing that IRL so they hide their lack of empathy, become good at pretending to be empathic. The mask slips or indeed thbey take the mask off when they are online.

I think putting people on ignore because you don't like their opinion is extremely petty. I want to read everyone's perspective, no matter how dumb or out there it is.

In real life I'm 5' 6", super-timid and agoraphobic, with bad teeth and a gammy eye. On boards I have an alter-ego who is confident, no-nonsense and tough. I'm the one who tells people who have had their cars clamped to "man up", get a con-saw and cut it off - funnily enough, I have never driven in my life. It's also me who tells people what I would do to "scrotes" and "scumbags" who mugged/threatened me, scratched my car or entered my garden without permission. I need hardly mention what my opinion is of public servants and unemployed people!

Fair enough, may I ask why you put them on ignore?

I've no issue with it if you're being harassed by a poster, of course, in that case ignore/report their ass into oblivion.

It depends on which of many me's is posting. In general I find I have more time to think as I have to type the stuff. Talking does not allow this space. The mouth spouts sometimes unfinished thoughts.
