Will you give it a rest pal. I already told you, it's your prerogative to put any price on it that you want. If you don't want my advice, just ignore it.

As for my Tudor watch price. That is just an asking price. Watch the ad and see how low it might sell for. Unlike yourself, I did not put an unrealistic minimum price on it, I will let the offers come in and accept one that I can live with (probably lower than the lowest worldwide for sale)

I am looking at buying a Rolex on adverts. Can anyone recommend a place in Dublin 2 to do an authenticity inspection?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,462 ✭✭✭micks_address

Ive heard Dawson street jewellers mentioned few times in relation to authentication

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,117 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Dawson jewellers do an authentication inspection for €50. But you don't get anything in writing for that. They will also do that, but it would cost more. Weir's as the official AD for Rolex in Dublin, also provide this service, they will provide a report with it, but the last time I looked, they charged €250 for this (might have been about 4-5 years ago)

I'd buy the seller really, a proper authentication will need the case back opened, can't see it being cheap or a seller necessarily agreeing to it

In my opinion of you need a watch authenticated with an authorised dealer then adverts isn’t the place to be buying as Cyrus has said buy the dealer

Majority of authorised dealers get annoyed when asked because they are there to do sales and make money not help someone get a better deal if that makes sense, it’s very time consuming and most of the staff in an ad like keanes wouldn’t have a scooby about what’s genuine if it’s not current model and even then it’s pot luck

post a link to the advert here.. lots of sellers on adverts would be known by some of us on this forum and may be able to advise

They don't look familiar to me, but the retail on a sub date is €10.9k and a no date €9.7k. If I were in the market, I would pay maybe €600-700 over list for a no date, but no more than a few hundred over list for a date. Cheapest date are a bit over €11k on C24. That is asking price before negotiation and the seller pays 6.5% commission. Make of that what you will.

Personally I wouldn't pay the "non negotiable" €12k even if it was from one of the reliable traders on adverts

Did adverts.ie always hide old ads? Bit annoying you can't even see a list of what someone has listed in the past.

Yes very annoying, I prefer the open book approach where you could see all old and sold ads and all comments. I think it changed about 2 years ago or so. No idea why. Maybe under pressure from commercial sellers - in their interest to not see any history. Or data protection. Who knows, maybe an insider can comment?

Lots of watches sold and deals done in the last few weeks, 3 watches left to sell, prices further dropped, but make me an offer!

Been keeping my eyeys on C24 - cheapest one is below but no box and papers. 12k seems about 500 euro premium on the bottom end the market rate for a date Sub.

a quick loook through that sellers sold/withdrawn adverts would give me confidence that the sub you are looking at is genuine. Presumably has receipts/paperwork to show prospective buyer. Still worth meeting somewhere like Dawsons for peace of mind

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,117 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Unless you are near certain that you will keep it forever, you will want box and papers. And remember that price on C24 is before negotiation and the seller pays a hefty fee on that too. The real private sale prices are well below C24 prices. Even for the like of a Rolex sub

How were you able to see the list of their old ads? It's not clickable for me

genuinely thought everyone could see users sold/withdrawn adverts in the app! And yes I have super powers in adverts 😜

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,279 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

Wait, it is all visible in the app for me too! Just not the site. How strange.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,192 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

everyone can see sold or withdrawn and comments in the app unless it’s deleted

I’d buy off that seller but for a new watch you would expect purchase receipt.Even if they lost it ,they could request a copy from the seller for a recent purchase .No receipt and I’d pass.

Unless you want the watch in a hurry though I’d go to weirs and stick your name down , tell them you’ve a big birthday or some other event in the next few months and there’s a good chance you’ll get one .As we all keep saying it’s different times now .Or pay the grand extra to save the hassle ..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭FocusST

Not in a rush but also not happy to buy a Tudor / Omega / IWC that I am not particularly fond of in Weirs to get a Sub. Would you really get the nod for a Sub with zero purchase history?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,957 ✭✭✭scwazrh

Buying stuff you don’t want isn’t for the current times .Theres plenty of Rolex going to the AD so someone has to get them and now the day of the flippers is done , you’ve a better chance .A good few of us here have got Rolex from weirs in the last few years despite assuming not a hope.My point was more go in and give it a try.

Anybody ever buy a watch from Montro? : https://montro.com/es/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,117 ✭✭✭✭unkel

What is it, some sort of grabber of watches for sale from professional sellers? From a quick glance, prices are a good bit higher than C24, I can't see any reason to go with this site. If it is protection you are looking for, you get that from C24 even when buying from private sellers.

I've heard of them before but not used them. They seem only to sell on behalf of professional sellers.

I've found the same watch from them €400 cheaper than on C24. They use an escrow account as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,117 ✭✭✭✭unkel

The added value of the escrow is if you buy from a private seller - with a lower asking price. There is already inherent protection if you buy from a professional dealer.

But yeah if you want to buy a watch with protection and this site is giving a lower price than C24, go for it!

Personally I would try contact that professional seller directly and try do a better deal. They often can if they don't have to pay the middle man

I did that with my planet ocean. The seller on chrono24 has a bricks and mortar shop and website which we were able to negotiate a better price through. It's a little more risky I guess..at least with the escrow option you authorise the payout to the seller when you are happy with what you have received

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 701 ✭✭✭fulladapipes

I've done that before as well buying a Sub. I called the guy who owned the shop first, but even still you're taking a punt.

The one I'm thinking of buying has a shop in The Hague and I spoke to them, but Montro had already negotiated a better price for me, and payment will be through Montro and escrow.

Just got an offer on my Tudor on DoneDeal. Guy knows his stuff. It is quite a good chunk under my already substantially lowered asking price, but tempted to accept it. Would prefer to sell it here though, if anyone in here is interested, they can get it way, way below the cheapest one of these for sale worldwide. And the watch is full set, Irish. And mint.
