Just to clarify - is pre-booking required?

(I'm due to work that day but I am making efforts to get the day covered. I might not know how I'm fixed until the night before).

Pre-registration is preferred as it gives us an idea of how many are attending, but you can turn up on the day and pay with cash.

    Here's the route: http://www.strava.com/routes/388297

I'd like to do it, depends on work etc. I'd be up for the 100k. It'll take me 22k to get there and 22k back so I can count it as a 150k day!

ANY CI (or IVCA) licence is suitable...from Intro Licence upwards.

I'll probably be along with two in tow, but will be registering on the day in case I have a very large hangover. Bring on national champs!

Is this usually a hammerfest or is there room for the more leisurely cyclist as well?

The tour is most definately not a hammer fest.

If last year is anything to go by the 1st 100km is done at nice relaxed pace around 26-27km per hour average pace then the main group breaks up with the speed ramping up and a group at the front going more brisker averaging around 30-31km.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 581 ✭✭✭greenmat

I'll be there with the Younger members doing a 60km route. Hope a few can join us, should do about 24-26km per hour average. Rolling out with main groups from Fingallians and turning off the main route at Ratoath, up Skryne Road and back onto main route to Tayto Park after 40km for food stop. Then straight back to Fingallians Gaa via the Rathbeale Road. Kids are really looking forward to it.

I'll be there all going well. It's well worth doing for anyone interested. Very well organised and supported event. I had a very Enjoyable spin last year ........... Until Ardcath Hill ;-(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,114 ✭✭✭stecleary

cant wait, going to be my new longest spin as im planning the full 140 and no thinking spinning with the juniors the last few weeks might bite me in the ass.....

Your club secretary has to approve your CI application AFAIK so be sure to drop them an email asking them to action it straight away.

Indeed. Of course I'm not an expert in this area so I possibly should not offer an opinion!

Are you a member of a cycling club? Apply via the CI website and apply for a license. Your club secretary will have to approve your license, so contact Him/Her and get it approved. Once approved, you can then log back into the CI website and pay for your license. your 2014 membership number will then be displayed in your CI profile page. Print off this number and bring it with you.

If your not a member of a club, select "Unattached" and go directly to the payment stage.

Should be there too, just waiting for other half to find out what time she has a tennis match on ......

    Im hoping to be there.

Does the route go over snowton and/or mulaghteelin? I was up that way earlier and they have resurfaced the road with loose chippings, so gravel all over the place.

Aye, nice spin altight. Cracking day for it. Thanks swords!

Left Drogheda @ 7am and cycled up to Swords.
Managed to stay with the first group until just before Tayto Park.
I was then on my own all the way up the N2 and as far as Duleek.
I didn't realise I was on a heroic yet doomed solo breakaway until I got swallowed up by the peloton in Duleek! :D
Followed the 140km route until the Naul where I broke left and came home via Stamullen and Gormanstown.
160km door to door @ 28kph (which is 40km more than I've ever cycled before)
Thanks to everyone involved for a very well run and enjoyable event. :)

Perfect day out - I know a lot of that is due to the cracking weather, but there was a well-organised, well-behaved bunch (despite the presence of lenny) including lots of Swordsies who took up plenty of the slack, a hard-working moto-marshal who kept us safe, a nice food stop in Tayto Park (little disappointed Mr Tayto wasn't around for a photo though :(), and a feed at the finish.

Also got to meet taxman, lennymc, outfox, brasshead, velo.2010 and plenty of lovely non-boardsies. Well done Swords, can't wait for the next one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭velo.2010

Agree with all the above! Very nice spin in glorious weather with some great views of the sea on the way back. Plenty of cake and tea at the finish.:)

Man that was some day out. Fantastic weather and a good working group. Nice bit of grub at the stop. Didn't know how long I'd be able to keep with the front group when things got slightly lumpy but I kept finding something in the legs to hang on.
I lost contact when the fire engine was passing the group, tried to bridge the gap, with the help of a Dublin Bus, but sat up and waited for a small group to catch me. Tried again heading out of Lusk and got within 200m of the rear but the pace upfront went up a notch and I blew a gasket so just took it handy back to Swords.

One of the best things today was the motorbike outrider we had looking after our group. For one motorbike to look out for a sizable group he did a sterling job at every single junction. Me thinks he may do something similar as a day job. Chapeau sir!

Got to have a chat with Buffalo as we kicked off and Lenny en-route.

Big thanks to all involved at Swords CC. Definitely one for next years calendar.

Lovely to hear such great reports about the event. All the credit goes to John and his wife Mags, the backbone of the touring side of the club. Was with the Youth/beginners group today, who we ended up splitting into 2 groups, great effort by all, 63km at 24-26km per hour. Great to see good numbers from Blanch Wheelies, Orwell and Clontarf CC. Would have loved to have done the 145km route, but someone has to mind the Future Junior Champions. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 751 ✭✭✭Arthurdaly

Really enjoyed the spin today, the group stayed together for the most part and the weather was glorious. The food stop at Tayto park was excellent and I especially like the fact all riders waited together before heading out on the second leg, had a wheel all day!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,114 ✭✭✭stecleary

Fantastic day. I have "awesome" tan lines. I'm shattered and fit for bed.
165 door to door @28.5. Went out with the 2nd group and couldn't believe the pace we carried to tayto park. After the break was hell with ard cath, the three sisters and loughshinny on the way home.
