Cannot find a matching one online anywhere, its for an e39 5 series, its plastic, goes upright from the floor then goes towards the front of the car, at the joining where the upright meets to other part it has worn and split here.

The plastic "pusher" literally just pushes another piece of metal (which I assume is the actual accelerator)

Any one I see online seem to be a full model with a large base etc whereas this one looks very much like just replacing the plastic "pusher" itself (for want of a better term)

Any help appreciated in where I might locate a replacement

The one you've linked is probably LHD, so the part number would be no good. You can get a complete pedal for €16 from the UK. Or maybe ask around the scrapyards here, it's fitted to pretty much every BMW in the last 15 years: http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/35411161723
