Tried it earlier again, got bored after 10minutes. Just isn't for me.

Insane support from the devs though

It's still definitely a make your own path game for the most part. The missions did add a bit to it, and the Expeditions are intended to experience the new bits in a mission format. Tbh, I'm not 100% sure why I'm still playing. I think it's the simple experience of just picking a random star, warping there and being able to fly to, land and take off without loading. Nothing else comes close to it that I've played, even if it can be repetitive. Just something about the freedom of exploration, skimming around just above the atmosphere and watching the rest of the planets and star(s) move around... I totally understand how it may bore some though.

A couple of updates later and the new Expedition, Liquidators, has launched. Just started it, combat focused, kill all the things.

Finally took out the sentinel capital ship and tracked down the intercepter craft. Lovely yoke to fly.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

Was wondering what updated last night, was thinking maybe Worlds Pt2 but I suppose that's too soon. I'm not a big fishing fan, so doesn't really interest me. May complete the expedition just to get the goodies. Wonder will they just keep plugging away at this over time. I don't think I've seen this kind of dedication in any other game...

Cant wait to try this out. Looks great, and a bit of fun. Something to do when you find a nice planet and want to chill for a bit. Will be interested to see if this improves the cooking side of things at all - probably my least favourite part of the game at the moment.

What's the best way to try out the new content generally?

I always find myself starting a new game and by the time I've fixed the ship and left the planet I've given up again.

Is there a way to specifically do the new stuff?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,775 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Usually the accompanying expedition. It's a new game but accelerated somewhat. Once you've finished it then, you can bring over the expedition unlocks into your primary game via the Nexus/using quicksilver. Then you can work towards unlocking all the new basic stuff again but with an idea of what you're doing.

Thanks, where would I find this new expedition though?

Would I load up an existing save? Or is it part of a new game, but I'm just picking the wrong path?

I've literally never experienced any new content with this game, unless it's part of the world or GUI etc.

Expeditions are basically new games, but sped up somewhat. They concentrate on the event so assume you know the basics at least. You start a new game/save slot, then select the expedition on the right on the next screen, iirc.

I've over 250 hours across PS4/PS5. There are things I haven't done yet! I tried one night, but can't get the robot questline to start, so have done little of that. Main save I concentrated on doing everything in the Atlas and Centre of the Galaxy quests, without actually completing them (you don't want to actually go through the centre of the galaxy).

Then I started following the prompts/missions for your crew, built a few basic bases, but mainly just keep flying around exploring. I've yet to find a system/planet I'd be happy to retire on, and I still intend to make a resource farm to craft the most expensive/exotic materials, but again I've yet to encounter a star system that has all the planets I need. I've done basically no gas mining, and my freighter is basic. I do little to no freighter missions, and only do some to see the Normandy fly around (it's an expedition reward). And all this is solo.

This game really has a lot to do, but some people won't like that because it's a lot of simple with little to no story. But I like it. Just me and space.

Well, that's it! I've never done an expedition!

Well I feel moronic now :D

Yeah, I've about 50/60 hours in it between PC and console.

Gonna actually play some of the new DLC for once, now that I actually know how to :)

Only problem with the Expeditions, is once they're over, they're over. Every now and then they'll so a month or two where each expedition is open to play again, that's how I've done around half of them. So keep an eye out at the Nexus/on here to see when they're available again. I had none done until I saw you can get the SSR-1 Normandy as a frigate, had to have that. And have since got a few outfit items, pets, cosmetics and a fancy raceship!

Cool, sounds like a plan! Renewed excitement on this 8 year old game 👍

There are two ways to start an Expedition .

1: You start a new game/save slot, then select the expedition on the right on the next screen . ( as said above )

2: Load up your main save, go to the Nexus, on the ground floor go behind where the Quicksilver Missions are handed out and there is a panel where you can start the new Expedition but also bring some items with you to help you get started and move forward quicker .

I usually do one of each …………. don't ask why, I have no idea :D

See, over 250 hours of gameplay and I didn't know you could start them from the Nexus...

One tip I'll give for freighters, every now and then when you fly into a system, you'll encounter a freighter being attacked. If you save it, they offer it to you to buy, but the first time it's free. Keep saying no until you get one you like/better class. They be expensive!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,439 ✭✭✭jonski

Also there is loads of videos on Youtube showing you how to get an S class , even an S class Pirate Freighter . I have a stupid amount of hours gone into this game .

Also, also :D , there is a 3.8GB patch today ( haven't looked into whats in it but I presume it's a bug fix )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,775 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I found a pirate A class, one of the Resurgent ones. Massive yoke! Think I ended up getting it for free because I had nearly destroyed it and they handed it over to me instead. Or something along those lines. Depending on where its viewed, its either black and red, or brown and red! But you can recolour them now anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,439 ✭✭✭jonski

Yeah, you take out it's engines first so it can't jump away then you take out the 5 guns on top, after that you just land on it, approach the captain and he will surrender it to you ( you must complete it before it destroys the Freighter it is attacking). If you find the right system with a good chance of an S class spawning you can reload a restore point if it is not an S class . Keep on restore until an S class spawns … can take up to an hour but I was out there killing time anyways .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,775 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I tried that for a while, got bored and just accepted the next coolest one I could find. Barely use it so no need for an S class yet. Some day I may turn it into the floating base I envision! But I'm kinda reluctant as they're probably gonna add even more stuff going forward! And it'll be a grind to get those freighter customisation unlock things.

Even with the Youtube videos those unlocks for the Freighter are a 'test your patience' grind .

Did the Cursed expedition ( as both a New Game and through my main save ) it's easy enough and doesn't take too long .

As for the new ship , it doesn't hover :( so it will stay in the hanger

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,775 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Just finished it last night myself. The NMS Millenium Falcon. It's pretty impressive stat wise, but I really like my Starborn Runner... Expedition itself was alright, strange to do one with zero warping outside of the portals. But quick enough if you stick to the stage rewards. Worth it to get the ship anyway. Did have some pretty cool time effects though, and some of the sky views in a couple of the systems were awesome as the planets were basically in a line. Still wows me at times. And just found out you can use the DualSense in VR for flying now, so will probably play a good bit more of it in VR now. Wonder will the Pro enhance the VR version any.

That time they had the infinite credit glitch ruined the game for me, but winter is coming so might revisit on gamepass

Was massively disapointed when it came out. Got sucked into all the "unlimited amount of procedurally generated worlds" hype.

Dev could have done the usual cash grab and vanished, but looks like they've acted with great integrity.

Time to take another look at NMS, I think.

Noice. Definitely going to be one of the first games I try on the Pro. Already have the Normandy from the original expedition, but I'll happily do it again. Hello Games are something else now.

The Redux missions have started and the first one is for the StarBorn Runner .

That's become my ship of choice in my main save. Its amazing. Such a cool unique look, handles excellent, loads of storage and tech. Must try and get the ones I missed this time.
