    My mk3 golf went for nct an failed on the shocks(left 55m)(right 36m)which one is fecked

    I'll say the right one but suggest you change both otherwise there will still be a discrepancy.

    Wuld the springs make a dif if they were two drif ones and two dif shocks

    Doesn't matter. Replace both to ensure correct balance

    Im going to presume OP means both the front springs and shocks are from different manufacturers. This can make a difference, more so on the springs as, depending on manufacturer, there can be a difference in rebound rate so effectively one could be slightly stronger that another. This is mainly depending on production method and quality of metal used.

    it is the left suspension which is the issue, the higher the number indicates the amount of movement in the suspension. the left shock absorber strut has the most amount of movement at 55mm

    as you say though if it is a shock absorber always recommended replacing both together anyway

    Wrong. mm in this case isn't millimetres, it's Mahameters. Made up for measuring shocks imbalance.
