    Hi
I am considering starting going cycling over the summer and want to know where I could get a cheap cyclometer to map my progress. Either online or in a shop. Also does anyone have any other tips for someone who is starting cycling. I occasionally cycle from A to B but I want to start cycling mainly to get fit

    Thanks

Something like this can be good to begin with:

If you want to track your progress then a Garmin can be better for using Strava although you can also us an App on your phone:

Joining your local cycling club would be the best way to learn.

If its specifically to map and you have a Smartphone - pick an app.... Strava, Sportstracker, Mapmyride, etc... the specific flavour you need is a personal choice, all have effectively the same features when it comes to mapping. They are a little differentiated in other ways. You can run multiple apps on the one phone and make a comparison. I find these excellent for charting progress, particularly Strava as you can easily compare your times over history on particular runs and segments.

For speed, distance and time, etc. for on the go monitoring, start of with an entry level bike computer. I'd recommend the wireless kind and you can get these for as little as €20 in Halford's. Later when you get the bug you can join in on the "should've left the credit card at home thread!"
