I'm pretty sure I've seen it ask for the van rate on the automated gate

Think it goes by ANPR and what the vehicle is taxed/registered as, could be wrong though.

I got a commercial Santa Fe through the M7 toll for €1.40 or something

Was less than a car anyway

Its €3.30 for a van and €1.90 for a car

It goes by the tax class on the log book at the auto gates.
If you go to a human it is based off what they see.

I think he meant that the saving between the car and van rate is €1.40

Posting about trying to dodge 1.40 on a toll, Really?

Do you have nothing else to worry about in life. Just pay the correct amount.

If it's a Transit Connect/Peugeot Partner kind of thing, you'll pay the van rate, good luck convincing them to accept €1.90.

If it is down as private on the log book, then it will be charged as private at the auto gates.
A human operator however will charge commercial.

It's really up to you OP. At 5am you will meet very little in the way of traffic on the Dock Road and Condell Road but it does add a bit of extra distance going this route so really swings and roundabouts.
