Transfer UPC Contract

I'm going away for the summer but have 3 months left of my UPC contract. I'd like to transfer the account to you, thereby providing you cheap internet and a phone line for the summer and minimising my cost. I don't want to terminate early because there's a 200 euro fee.

It's for 120mb and a phone line. Retail price is 25 euro for the first 6 months then 45 for the remainder. I'm only looking for 25 euro, so you're getting the same value at a more manageable length.

    We'll both win!

    UPC don't do transfers though.

Sure they do. You can transfer the address, and add a second name to the account.

I can't provide a link because I'm a new user but if you Google UPC Moving Home you'll find they have a pretty detailed walkthrough of the process.

Your name will still be on the account though,
so for example I agree to add my name to your account, move your modem to my house and call Japan non stop for the few months for the laugh, you're jointly liable and its all your details they'll have, not mine (ie I'd only have to give you a name which you can't really verify and mobile number)

In theory its a great idea, but in reality its very risky and you're potentially compromising your own privacy by adding a total stranger from boards to your account

That's true, but you can also change the billing details, right? So whilst I may be liable, they won't be able to actually charge me. To be honest, I had hoped one of my friends would take over because a few people are moving into summer houses but everyone seems to have internet already provided.

It might be a bit risky but I thought I may as well check to see if there's any interest. I just hate the idea of paying UPC for a service that I can't even use, especially because I know there are people looking for internet for the summer.

If it were me, I'd nearly chance it with a family member or best friend, but nobody else.

Normally the "transferee" would have to accept a new 12 month contract, Same if you moved to another house.

    You have a choice .... 3 x 45 = 135 or a 200 early cancellation charge, as I understand what you have posted.

Can you not now give notice for the end of contract, and cancel the phone connection for the 3 months?

That should protect you from any extra charges that could be run up.
