Contacting someone on LinkedIn re: cover letter addressee

    Hi all,

I'm preparing a cover letter and CV for a job I wish to apply for. I like to find out who to address the cover letter to but can't find contact details online. I have found someone from the company on Linkedin but I'd have to add them to ask them to whom I should address my cover letter. It seems a bit forward. Is this OK to do? Or is it better just to go with 'Dear Sir or Madam' on the letter?

    Thanks!

Are they a friend or contact who you can realistically ask a favour from? IMHO, if you'd be willing to ask them face-to-face, then go ahead and do it via LinkedIn. But don't if now.

No, don't know them at all. Usually I'd ring the company but can't in this case.

I wouldn't ask somebody from the company but I would attempt to find the HR manager on linkedin, Google her and the name of her company and try to find her email address. Then email her your application. Otherwise go with the Dear Sir/Madam. I normally don't put the company address on my letter but then again I always email applications.

Another possible option, go to the company website. Check if they are advertising any roles. Maybe there will be a contact name on the spec.

It seems to be a new company so just has one of those solocheck.ie pages which don't tell you much unless you pay. :)

Nothing else being advertised by the company and no name was given in the spec for the one I'm applying for. :-/

I email too. I don't need the address, just the name of the relevant person.

Do they not have their own website?
