up at the crack tomorrow for the 200 and i find it really tough stuffing a massive bowl of porridge into myself at 5am before heading out. i know rice figures heavily in the pre-race diet of pro's and its something id much prefer to eat early in the am. if i switched my porridge for rice tomorrow morning would it be a mistake or much of a muchness?

I wouldn't go changing your normal breakfast routine on the morning of the cycle. Eat a bit more than you normally would. It's well stocked with stops, I don't think there is any need to go consulting Allen Lim.

The most important thing for me is always to get a good night's sleep, don't be up till 1am fretting about what to eat for breakfast or messing with your bike. Have it all ready and aim to be in bed by 22:00 at the latest.

Sorry for going off topic OP but Is there food such as energy bars and bananas available at the start? I don't usually eat before 7am so if there was food to take I could have breakfast on the bike about an hour or 2 into it.

did it last year so i know whats what with the food on the route and im well organised for the off tomorrow, just dont fancy a whopping bowl of porridge tomorrow am. might make some rice mixed with veggies as i prefer savory food over sweet.

@ billyhead, cant recall what was on offer at the start but id be fairly sure bars, gels etc are available. bring a few quids to be sure.

Last year there was absolutely nothing at the start and at the first stop around 100k there was a very big queue so make sure you've plenty of food with u and money just to be sure.

Previous years there was always a few bars on offer at the start but after last year i wouldn't be expecting to get anything.

Did the Evil 200 today, started with a massive bowl trough of bran flake + nut clusters and a banana.

On route I ate 3 nutrigrain choc chip bakes, 4 nutrigrain apple bars, 1 mr freeze blue, 3 bottles of lucozade sport, 1 nuun tablet, 2 double espressos, half a nutty flapjack, half a bag of red taytos, a bowl of gulash and brown bread, a tiny bag of penny sweets.

That said, I'm a bit of a glutton and it was a very long day out.

Rice is high GI compared to porridge which is low GI. Basically rice will release energy (glucose) into the blood system quickly and you could feel depleted quickly. I'd advise 1/2 size bowl porridge of what you normally eat and some scrambled eggs. Best of luck.

    Went with the porridge :&
After a night of zero sleep it wasn't actually to hard to get down me...looking at the weather out there I'll be glad of something warm
