Procrastination - why do we do it?

So I have just spent the whole day doing everything except what I'm supposed to be doing......

I even cleaned my room and did the hovering. If I planned to do that today, I would probably be doing something else to avoid doing it. It's a vicious cycle.

I then have a freak out when a deadline is coming up and stay up till all hours doing it last minute unless of course I completed it while avoiding doing something else previously......and I do this ALL the time. I never learn.

I am supposed to be working on a project...I started it weeks ago when I was procrastinating over something else.......and now I don't want to resume doing it.

Why do people procrastinate? It would be so much easier if I just did things when I'm supposed to do them.

p.s: Hotale, I am not advocating procrastination, you should be studying. :pac: :p

We think we're going to live forever and we know instinctively it's not true, but that doesn't stop us lying to ourselves and numbing it.

In fact the more we "feel" our own mortality the more we procrastinate and the more bull**** we try to bury ourselves under.

Yet when you're living, procrastinate never even crosses your mind as a feeling

The experts at procrastination, procrastinate thinking about their own procrastination.

I am the worst procrastinator, always leave things to the last minute and get really stressed. Then swear I'll never do it again ...............:(

I DID however, study for my LC.

I occasionally procrastinate on work tasks, my 'excuse' is that I'm still investigating, formulating the solution.

That doesn't really explain why I didn't change a light bulb for months though - that was pure laziness.

    We don't.
Procrastination describes what we didn't do.

I did actually study for my LC as well. I had no social media/no computer, I didn't even have a phone when I was doing my LC. :P I really did think it would be the end of my existence if it all went tits up. :P

I developed into a serious procrastinator when I went to college. I'm not AS bad now but still bad at times. :P The only thing that saves me is I will start on other projects/studying other things when I am avoiding doing something I should be doing. So I always have things started/half done when I get to them. :P

I think some people perform better under the stress that procrastination brings, i try to do things as they come along and if I know something has to be done i won't be able to relax until I have it completed,
my other half is the opposite, she will put it off repeatedly until it's really down to the wire and then hit the ground running to get it done on time

I always say I work better under pressure. If something is 2 weeks away, I won't feel any need to complete it until the last few days. One of these days I'll know what it's like to have a project done with time to spare.

I was actually procrastinating so hard last December a couple of weeks before my Christmas exams that I went into a bookshop and paid €12.99 for a book discussing the science behind procrastination, so OP I'll let you know when I get around to reading it.
