Thankfully there is going to be open CO and EO competitions this year along with an internal EO comp to boot.

The CO comp is being finalised and we're told the EO recruitment will commence towards the end of 2014.

Sorry for being a little skeptical- but do you have further information on this?

We received to seperate confirmatons. The CO union, CPSU issued members with confirmation during the week about the pending competitions. Then yesterday, our Team leads (I work in Peoplepoint) told us in meetings, that DPER had put the wheels in motion.

All verbal confirmations ... great! (not)

Please post a link when you have one.

We received email confirmation in an information note from the CPSU.

This is happening. The actual date of the competition cannot be divulged until the Public appointments service announces it.

If/when you have solid information on it- please do post it.
An information note from a union btw- isn't worth the hot air its written in.
I'm just seeing the 2 billion in cuts coming down the road for this autumn- recruiting more COs and EOs- while not particularly expensive, given the low salaries, is hardly going to be an easy sell to a skeptical public, when there are all sorts of stories in the media about how there is an uptick in the economy yet there is another 2 billion in cuts about to be foisted on us.

My dad who works in the civil service also received an email from management saying the same thing. Should be finalised by the autumn.

I didn't receive any confirmation from the CPSU but then again that is no surprise because CPSU are bunch of jokers. I am just wondering is the new competition for EO going to be for the new OGP.

If/when there is a competition- it will be for the 5 recruiting departments in the first instance- thereafter it will be the common pool (assignment by location and preference- as noted on applications- presuming they are taking preferences).

    Its a pretty standard approach.

Thanks for that info! Just to clarify, are you saying that you expect the CO one to open first (soon?) and the EO one to open a few months later?
Secondly, does anyone know what the story would be with applying for both? If applied for CO and got it, would that prevent one from applying for EO later in the open competition? (i.e. would one then be restricted to the internal competition and/or ineligible for the internal competition due to not being there long enough?)

You usually have to have two years service to apply for internal competitions but you could apply for open EO as long as you met the educational requirements

    Correct.
One new thing though for the internal competitions- they are not confined to the preceding grades- aka a CO can do a HEO competition etc (obviously they would have to display the pertinent competencies being sought- which they might not necessarily have gained in their previous grade).

Standard is 2 years satisfactory service, a minimum of a 3 in the previous performance evaluations- and satisfactory attendance and sick leave records.
