Short sleeve jersey as it will be warm
Arm warmers until sun comes out
Sun block for arms legs and ears
    Overshoes all day.
    Rain cape in back pocket
    Mitts

Pretty much the same except minus the arm warmers because a) I don't have any and b) I don't want them taking up space in my back packets but mainly the fact that i don't have any...

It's better to be able to take off stuff if the weather is anything to go by today - nothing worse than being stick in winter gear and melting.

    Bib shorts
    Short sleeved summer base layer
    Summer jersey
Arm and leg warmers (can be put on or off easily)
Rain cape and overshoes in back pocket

If it's anything like today it's going to be warm in between the showers, so bring sun cream as well

Summer(ish) gear but will have my rain jacket with me too. This is my first W200 and have heard great things about it. Hope to meet lots of friendly people and enjoy the day. See you all tomorrow bright and early!!

So how did it fair out for people yesterday? I had my rain jacket on from the off and took it off before we got to slieve maan. Was like a boiled in the bag dinner. Left my leg warmers and booties on for the day.

Put my rain jacket back on just after Avoca for showers that never materialised. Managed to bag myself a farmers tan when I had it off!

Soaked from the start. Over shoes just weighed me down when they got wet and rain jacket was no help. Is there such thing as rain proof gear

It's a choice of getting soaked from the inside or getting soaked from the outside.

It's a choice of getting soaked from the inside or getting soaked from the outside.

Unless you wear this something like this http://thumbs3.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/pict/261335378774_1.jpg

It's a trade off. Fully waterproof i.e. polyester or something made out of non-breahable fabric is going to trap sweat and get very uncomfortable very quickly..So you will get soaked on the inside anyway.

Something breathable like a gore-tex / pertex / eVent or other breathable fabrics will be slightly more bearable as they (claim) to allow your skin to breath.

My own reasons for wearing something waterproof and breathable in heavy rain is to prevent heat loss - keeping the wind off me. Although yesterday ws not the coldest day, there were a lotof peopleshivbering at the food stop in Baltinglass who were perhaps a little illprepared.

i would love to do this event, I know its kind of off thread, what amount of training would you require to be able for it?

Have a look at the Sean Kelly programme for the 160km Comeragh Challenge. Similar enough in terms of distance and climbing.

I did my first W200 6 months after buying a 2nd hand Giant - from a reasonable fitness level. So it is doable in this period - depends on your fitness levels really.
