Id be more worried about actually passing the test first of all. There are differences in test equipment and just because your mech says all is well is not guarantee that all will be well in the NCT test lane.
To answer your question, no. you have no comeback.

    Is your motor a daysul?

This should be interesting, we haven't had a "The NCT screwed me" thread in a few weeks here.

Yes, but the general consensus on here is it doesn't happen. But it does. I said it before, I had a car fail, light focus way off. Car not touched, car passed. I wouldn't waste my time trying to prove though. Just pay bastards and move on.

What does it say on the test sheet?

Use of testing equipment will be required. You will be charged for a retest.

What equipment is your mechanic using to test your emissions? Is your mechanic using an NCT test lane to measure the cars emissions?

The NCTS is committed to providing the service to the highest standards in customer service, quality and test integrity. Integrity is an important element of the National Car Test. If you feel the integrity of the service has been compromised in any way and would like to speak with someone in confidence; you can do so either by phone or email on the following:
    Email : integrity@ncts.ie

Don't just come on here whinging. As biko asked you, what exactly were your emission outputs on the NCT fail sheet? What were they when your mechanic did the same test? Or did he?

And what's this 40 euro down the drain business? The last time I paid that kinda money for an NCT test was at least a decade ago :D

If its a daysul it might just need a good blast down the Motorway in 4th gear.

Could be just a case of clearing the cobwebs out

Giving any car a good drive before getting tested is also known to work wonders for the emissions test.

Was it a petrol emission test or a diesel smoke test?
