Hi. I am 30 years of age and approaching 17 stone. I am so disgusted in myself and can not believe I have left myself get like this.

I have joined uni-slim/weight watchers a millions time and start great for the first couple of weeks and then quit.

Can someone recommend any "mentors" or clubs that they found useful in the Kerry area?

I know what I need to do with food and exercise but I can't seem to find the drive.

Then you really don't want to lose the weight.

In fairness to OP it seems like there is more going on here (based on her other thread) and she needs to see her GP regarding overall mental health first/as well. It may also help with the weight issues and breaking off the emotional eating.
Even if you do think you know what to do with the food, OP, I would also advise reading the stickies in this forum about nutrition... and ignore WW high sugar low fat tasteless stuff...

Thanks BlueWolf, I am meeting a nutritionist in a couple of weeks and will try and get back on track. Thank for taking the time to reply. X

    Go to your GP also
and if they don't help or take you seriously, go to a better one

Not if you read the other thread the OP started as well.

It would seem young bluewolf was being quite reasonable in hindsight!

If you are posting here, then it shows you want to make changes. Thats a good thing. But sometimes taking on too much can just overwhelm you. So dont worry about being x stone lighter in x amount of time, just decide on the changes you will make this week, and stick to them.

Its very easy to say, just do this, or just do that. But youve tried and failed, and youre also feeling very low. Food can be connected to our emotions, and it might be something to look into. I recommend http://www.overeatersanonymous.ie/ they may be able to help with your attitude towards food.

    This.

It's like running - you don't think of the whole distance you have to complete; you break it into milestones.

So like Oryx said, have a reasonable goal each week and work towards that.

I'm against most of those weight loss companies, or whatever they're known as, but from the little research I've done on them it seems like Slimming World is the best. By best I mean that it is based on fact, high satiation foods, looks at the diet as a whole more than good/bad foods, allows more freedom and, most importantly, seems the least likely to exacerbate any OCD like thinking towards food. I would never usually recommend these groups as they tell people what to do to lose weight rather than how so you're stuck with them but I think Slimming World is the closest you will get to a good education on food from these companies, they seem to have a really good group ethos and they rely on exercise so you know its the diet that's working. Best of luck.

Agree with this, its blunt but true. I have read OPs other thread but know people in a similar situation who have still managed to lose weight, without needing to involve medical professionals

The problem is that you actually haven't a clue about what you need to do food/exercise wise. There is so much useless/misinformation pumped out into society that it can be very hard to decipher the good from the bad. People try a million fad diets without being taught any of the basics. It's absolutely no wonder a person feels like they
can't seem to find the drive

There is some very good information in the stickies and if you start a log here you will get unlimited help.

Stickies are the threads that appear at the top of the forum. So named because they are 'stuck' to the top of the page. :)

If you start a log please be aware it cannot be a food diary.
