How long to collect invalidity pension in PO?

My father in law gets an invalidity pension, my mother in law collects it in the post office for him every week because he is unable to make it to the post office.

She is now in hospital after breaking her foot so cannot collect it today, how long is it available for in the post office? Can we ring the social welfare office and arrange for their son (my fiancé) to collect it on his behalf for a few weeks instead (mother in law will be unable to walk to post office to collect it for at least 6 weeks)?

They do not want to switch it to a bank account.

You can get a form from the post office to appoint a temporary agent (as opposed to a permanent agent like your mother-in-law). You just pick up a few forms, get your father-in-law to fill out his name and your fiance's name. Your fiance then can go down the the post office with the pension card, temporary form and a form of I.D. and pick up the payment - BUT - you can only do this for about 3 weeks. It might be worthwhile to ask in the post office about the expiry date on the payment when your fiance collects it so you can find out if it's sticking around long enough that you can make those three temporary agent forms stretch.
