Importing car from UK

Hi All, I don't know anything about how to go about this. However I know a guy who works for genuine Audi dealership in the UK and he's offered to do me a good deal. (It was instigated by me not him)

Is it best to go for a new car or maybe something 1 year old in terms of VRT, VAT etc. Will I end up paying VAT twice?

As you can tell I am clueless on this but have heard of people getting great deals and better specs in the UK.

    Any advice welcomed!

There's a STICKY thread in the BUYING subforum, loads of great info in there.

If you go NEW, you will get it VAT free in the UK, the dealer will mark it down as being exported, but you pay VAT in Ireland instead along with the VRT.

You really, really need to know what you are looking at. Some are light lock damage and just recovered. Others look perfect but are utterly destroyed. Would not recommend that market (Sam story with CoPart) to anyone without exceptional mechanical knowledge or someone with you. Don't buy the car unseen. Bargains can be had but you need to choose carefully.

Thanks ironclaw. ... I will take mechanic with me for sure. It says on their website that they give 6 months guarantee as well on online and gearbox

That's not much use to be honest. 6 months is no time at all and you'll be in Ireland. So its not cost effective or even usable. Consider all cars sold at auction as 'sold as seen' Honestly, unless its a super rare car here, its rarely cost effective to import.
