Could anybody suggest a good way of deterring birds from landing on a balcony rail? They're causing quite a mess, which apart from looking horrible is not very pleasant to clean up!

I saw two very large seagulls, (our seagulls are huge) sitting next to one of those owls the other day. I did laugh.

hang a cd from a piece of string, the light reflections will scare the birds off

That reminds me matt, the auld lad fills a 1.5 litre clear bottle with water and leaves it resting on its side to do the same. He has an issue with birds at wheely bins - they must be smart enough to know how to lift the lid. ;)
