Bushing question 01 fiesta

I am driving a borrowed 01 fiesta this week. Someone I gave a lift to told me they think there may be a bushing worn. It was a sound he heard? What sound would it be and are there bushings in front and back? At one point he said maybe something in boot. There are tools in boot like jack etc

Is it dangerous to drive with a worn bushing? This car passed NCT 4 months ago

Probably heard a thud going over a bump from back of car.

Check there is nothing lose in boot area
Tyre jack wheel brace are all secure

if the noise is still there you will need to investigate further or get a mechanic to have a look.

we weren't going over a bump when he said it. Is it only going over a bump it would happen?

Bushings or bushes are rubber parts between metal components that absorb rattling, movement and dampen motion , in the suspension they're usually round. I've had a full set of bushes replaced front and back in my Puma (essentially an '01 Fiesta). It's time consuming, and if you're borrowing the car I'd alert the owner but not take it on yourself!
Front set were €220 and rear was €180, mostly labour, at a cheap Indy garage.

Be aware, if you or your friend do go to a mechanic they may say you need to replace the whole arm, this is the easy option for the mechanic as its just bolt off bolt on and the new part will have a new bush already installed but this can be much more expensive. If on a budget push for just the bushes to be replaced. Also factor in wheel alignment as when any suspension part is changed it can usually throw out your alignment.
