For a GVV question what points could be made?I am at my wits end trying to come up with more than the role of women.

    - Poverty seen as quite negative. Emigration occurs because people have few employment chances. Eilis or her brothers would not have emigrated if it were not for these low levels. There is also a sense of being able to escape poverty but it has its negatives too. Eilis won't be very poor in Brooklyn but she will always miss home and forever be an emigrant.
    - Family: The family are close in many aspects. They all look out for each other. Rose watches out for Eilis as does her brothers. They all look out for their mother. In the State's, Tony's family seem close and the boys all go to baseball matches together.
    - Opening scene: qyite bleak. While the family are close-knit, the scourage of emigration means the breakup of family life. This is forced emigrations rather than simply going on an adventure.
    - Religion: overall religion is seen as positive. Father Flood is seen as a kind, caring character that assists those like Eilis to start a new life us the USA, helps the less fortunate (christmas dinner) and organises dances which helped them to socialise and make money to be used for charitable purposes.

    Hope this helped :)
