I put a topic about this a few days ago but now we have narrowed our options to these 6 cars and I decided if I put up a poll it may be easier to see what people think. So which car will you choose from the below?

I favour the Prius and the Citroen C4, DH favours the Ford GHIA and the Avensis.

    What do you think?

I think you might want to outline your needs a bit better before anybody could help you pick one from a varied bunch

No needs really, just a medium sized automatic car that works and will be reliable to work ok for the next 2- 3 years. No other preferences. Up to 10k budget. We have narrowed the available ones that we like to the above 6 and need to choose one of the six as ours stopped working today and it's too dear to fix. Needless to say both of us are clueless when it comes to cars.

Here's my simple whittling down of it.

Lose the diesels. These will almost certainly be the least reliable and most likely to throw a wobbler.

That leaves you with the Prius, the 1.8 and 2.0 Avensis's and the Focus.

Avensis vs Avensis. The 2.0 is superior, has a 5 speed gearbox vs the 4 speed on the 1.8 and has a better spec. That one is from a toyota main dealer too

    Leaving you with
    Avensis 2.0
    Prius
    Focus 1.6

Prius is the most reliable and efficient. Cheapest tax of the three. 2 owners
Avensis the least efficient but has most goodies and is the biggest. 2 owners
Focus, erm dunno - sharpest to drive? Lowest mileage, no nct. 2 owners

I bought a Ford focus Ghia myself 2 months ago and I love it. Has lots of extras and is a lovely drive. It was by pure accident that I ended up taking it for a test drive. .. I actually went to test drive an avensis ... must say I was very underwhelmed by the actual drive experience of the avensis. I had read reviews that described it as 'a boring drive' and now I know what they meant. But if you not going to be driving it for long periods then they are very reliable and good value.

Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it. We decided to check out all three short listed by colm (very many thanks for this btw). Hopefully we will be driving our "new" car by the end of the weekend.

Hi, I am only just seeing this. We went with the Ghia (well hubby made the decision, I wanted the Prius). Having said that, so far we are happy with it and we have had no issues.
