A Sky box needs a connection from a satellite dish. (And dish needs to be pointed at the right satellites.)

Of course. What channels are you currently receiving, without Sky or UPC, as you say?

Over 100 channels? If you don't have a satellite dish & TV with a satellite tuner built in, then you must be in a part of the country where reception of UK terrestrial broadcasts (Freeview) is possible.

Presumably the bedroom TV is pretty old & doesn't have any kind of digital tuner? Some older digital TVs will work with UK Freeview, but not Saorview.
