I just bought a shoulder of pork form fx buckly in nutgrove there. payed 25 euro for 3kg, have I over payed? Looking online some places have 3kg for 12 euro.

I was a little surprised by the price but wanted it to make pulled pork sambos.

you were **robbed. I get pork shoulders from joe butchers on ballybough for six euro, not sure of the weight but think they are over 2kg. will weigh tonight. they are bone in always.

2.4kg bone in for 6 euro. If the 3kg piece is boneless not so bad.

Really depends where you buy. The butcher beside Tesco in Ballybrack, Dublin has 1.8kg bone-in pieces for €6. I was stung before for a 2.7kg piece for €24.

My parent's butcher got wind of my 'fondness' for pork shoulders and said nobody wanted them. I was given a massive 4.1kg piece for €20. Managed to use this for a batch of pulled pork (10-12 days worth of sandwiches), a batch of chilli (with other meat, about 8 large portions) and a huge portion of ribs. Kinda grew sick of pork after that. First world problems, eh

Sounds a tad bit high, last time I got one, was about 17e in BUckleys with a bit less weight. Thing is though, the quality of their meat is a lot higher than a supermarket or some other butchers- especially their beef.

Got a 3kg shoulder yesterday for €11 in the meat factory outlet in ballymount industrial Park. Do most of my meat shopping there!
