I'm walking down the street in Limerick and it's full of our best and brightest boasting about who did the worst in the first exam.

Apparently everyone failed and omg the exam wuz 2 hard. Why can't people just say 'yeah it was grand' if they did ok? I'd guess doing well or average is something to be ridiculed. I see it in third level where (in arts at least) it's almost impossible to fail first year.

    WTF AH?

It's cool to be thick, even if you're one of these poor kids who's been up all night puking for the month preceding the exams, and sh1ts "A"s. :pac::pac::pac:

    Two reasons
    1) Lowering people expectations of themselves so no one is surprised if they do poorly
    2) Reverse snobbery where you are looked down on if you are well educated/bright/etc

    It's not cool to boast.

Also anyone on the street talking about how **** they did prob aint the "best and brightest".

They best and brightest were prob collected after exam and straight home to prep for the afternoon/morning.

Yeah, I did fcuk all studying for English, was out till three the night before and had ten pints and four brandies. Walled out of the exam after an hour, never wrote one word.

    Got an A2.

Imagine if I had put in bit more effort, I wouldn't be where I am today.

I'm looking forward to seeing YouTube videos featuring young Fíachras and Iseults limbering-up during the exam period, having a good roar about the durty sh1te-in-a-bucket exams! :D

they're kids looking for sympathy for having to do the exams and study.
i know people who are in college who go on like they are saving the world. it's an exam ffs!

but it's a huge deal to these kids doing their leaving/junior cert. so it's a-given they'll go on like it's a major task i suppose!

Its on case you end up actually doing crap, and you've said you did well. Better to look good in a few months time than bad

Its like a race to the bottom sometimes. I got top marks in my exams at christmas and the piss was taken a bit from a few people.

Just tell them you'll tip generously in a few years when they're working hard earning a living scampering around in cages flinging their own dung at tourists.

Its only the Leaving Cert, Apart from getting into college (if you dont get the points you can do a PLC for 1 year and get into 90% of courses the following year) It has no effect on your life!

I would have thought people say they've done badly to see what other people say and get a feel for how the exam went for others.

I came out of an exam last year that I was really happy with, and when my classmate asked me how it went I said "brilliantly, couldn't have gone better". And he said "yeah it went great", and sure then I found out he barely passed it. So I guess if you say it went one way everybody will agree to save face, whether that's being either too smart or too thick!

In school it was seen as cool to be average or worse, anyone who did well was a teachers pet. I'd love to go back and tell the teenage me to knuckle down and try harder cos at the end of the day it matters fcuk all what a bunch of people you'll probably never see again after school think of you.

You think that was good, I never went to school but was down the bookies the afternoon of English Paper II writing out me Lucky 15 for the day when an English teacher spotted my docket, commented on my excellent handwriting and asked if they could submit my docket to be marked.

Turns out I got a B1.....would have got an A1 only the last horse was beaten the width of a bee's dick, jockey gave him a balls of a ride. Could have been a doctor or something by now only for he got the nag boxed in on the rail, was flying at the death

It's true until the results come out and then it's the complete opposite.

Funny how a lot of people who "did nothing" all year, got the highest points!
