Help in Appealing Medical card decision

Hi, I am looking for some help and advice in appealing a medical card decision for my parents. They are both over 70 and have just been declined the medical card as they are 6 euro, yes 6 euro over the financial limit. They have been granted a GP card, however they both have various medical problems, from high blood pressure to diabetes and the cost of medication will cripple them.

Does anyone know how to word an appeal letter and what information should be included. They only have 21 days to appeal and that was from last week, so looking for advice asap. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hiya
If they have diabetes they should have the Long Term Illness Card for that and as such should not be paying anything for any treatment or prescriptions associated with the diabetes.
If they don't have the card you need to speak to the GP who should have organised that for them.
In the appeal you need to provide medical evidence, from the GP or specialist, of an ongoing medical issue. The diabetes itself cannot be considered as all that is covered in the Long Term Illness card.
Your parents have been assessed as having income in excess of €900 per week. If you can prove that this is not their income you should supply evidence as well.

If your parents have been given a GP card it means they have been assessed as have income between 900 -1400 a week minus the cost of (Rent/mortgage/travel to work expenses where applicable) If this is not correct of their situation you should appeal.

Under the Drugs Payment Scheme, an individual or family in Ireland only has to pay €144 each month for approved prescribed drugs, medicines and certain appliances for use by that person or his or her family in that month. They should not pay more than this a month
