    Hi all

Just wondering if there are any issues with buying silver outside of Ireland(and the EU) and bringing it into Ireland?

Also, are there any issues buying silver while in Ireland?

    Any help would be appreciated

AFRAIK VAT @ 21% is chargeable on silver coins imported from outside the EU.
Recently I bought 3 Morgan silver dollars from the USA and customs charged me VAT which was collected by the postman. An Post charged 6€ on top for this this noble act

Ok, so if I were to actually bring in my own coins which I have purchased in Australia through the airport...they can't charge me on that can they?

There is some info on this site, but I cannot vouch for its accuracy.

    Interesting paragraph states that
Of course if the package slips through customs inspection things are totally fine. But not declaring and not paying is viewed as evasion of taxes

Yes, and this is where it ends here. We do not advocate or permit the suggestion of any illegal activity in this forum, including evasion of taxes due on items brought in from other countries.
