I'm In the process of buying a car imported from outside the EU in 2006. All duties etc were paid at the time, the paperwork has been mislaid but should turn up. Would a reg no have been issued at the time of import, or is there a separate procedure for this?.

Duty is paid on landing, but registration is a separate process.
