    Hi Guys,

Does anybody know of an equivalent of this cycling forum in the UK where you can ask questions about events etc and get good reliable answers ?

    Thanks Paul.

    Depends where you're based...

The Braveheart forum is good for Scotland.

This, Bikeradar, seems to have similar threads in the forum as the Cycling Forum on Boards.

Will be based around Coatbridge near Glasgow all next week visiting inlaws. Bike will be with me and looking to hook up with others.

Would try and grab a sportive weekend of 14/15th if there was one on within an hour or so drive.

I don't know of any sportives on that weekend.

For me the 3 best cycles locally are:

Lap of Arran. Its is 90 km with some good hills... its my favourite. You can get the train from Glasgow Central to Ardrossan and then get the ferry.

Glasgow-Dunoon... Leave early cause the road can be busy, head towards Helensburgh, than Arrochar, up the rest and be thankful (there is a relief road on the left as you start to climb which is car free). Down the B828, right onto B839, left onto A815 and then follow this to Dunoon. Its a short boat and train back to Glasgow.

The other one is out towards loch katrine... the road by the lake is closed to cars and makes a great cycle.

Most of the clubs would be happy for you to tag along too, there is a small club in coatbridge http://www.coatbridgeclarioncycleclub.com/

Or my club meet at Seimpre in the west end at 9:30 on a Sunday morning. http://www.glasgowwheelers.com/

Appreciate this info. Arran sounds great, lived in Scotland for a few years when much younger and it a place I intended getting to but never did.

Don't fancy navigating built up areas too much on bike so would be happy to drive a bit and then cycle. Looking at Google maps I see that I could drive to Gourock, catch a ferry to Kilcreggan and then cycle up either side of that peninsula to Arrochar, follow the route you recommend and get the ferry back from Dunoon to Gourock. Don't suppose you have access to a strava/garmin link for this or any idea of how long it may be ?

And with Loch Katrine cannot pick out the roads from Google maps, don't suppose you have a link here ?

If you don't mind a short drive there is an Audax on the 14th in Galashiels:

Loch Kakrine Loop from Glasgow suburbs...

That Gourock idea sounds great, Glasgow-Dunoon is 130 km so my guess is you'll reduce it to about 110 by starting with that ferry.
