Hi, Just completed first cut of silage at the weekend.

I now need to apply fertiliser for the second cut,

Question is should I apply fertiliser now to stubble ground or should I wait a week or so till there some grass on the feilds.

Which would make best use of the feriliser ?

    Thanks.

As said already, get it out asap. Research has shown that delaying fertiliser application for 2nd cut by a week reduces yield by 6%.

I did not know that, normally I would spread slurry straight away and then put out fert maybe a wk later, when it's just starting to green up again

You should wait a week-10 days between applications of slurry and fertiliser. Otherwise there will be losses of Nitrogen through Denitrification.

Its a figure that we are quoting so there must be trials we have done to back it up. Ill have a look to see what i can come up with.

Yep fire away, can be spread anytime from mid january(zone dependant) to mid October!
However the more value will be got from it earlier in the year!

It's usually best to wait for a cloudy day to put out slurry as there is a higher uptake of nitrogen. As other poster said there must b a 10 day gap

I find very watery slurry better, it goes into the ground quicker and the field greens up quicker. Then hit it with a blast of bag manure. Second cut is then ready 8 weeks after the first cut.

    Good to know.
Would slurry type make a difference (as in less days for pig slurry etc)

Don't think there are any accurate answers on that
