Audi goodwill on EGR valve?

My mother has an 11 reg audi A3 1.6 tdi. She was getting a horrific smell recently which turned out to be a burnt out EGR valve. She had it diagnosed in our local independent gargage.

The car has 50km on it and while the mileage is not huge it does a fair few long motorway jaunts to keep the the old dpf clear which I thought would keep the EGR valve cleaned out too?

It was bought with 3 years free servicing from the Audi dealer as part of the deal which has been done on the button when due.

My question is does anybody know/think what the chances of Audi contributing goodwill towards an EGR replacement?

Yes they should but from experience it very much depends on the dealer as to whether they get audi to cough up.
Some don't seem to bother with the process, just tell customer that it was unsuccessful.
I had the dealer who I bought new from and serviced at telling me there was no goodwill whereas another dealer I just walked into applied and got 75% of Windows regulators.

I had a crack in the EGR valve in my 09 A6. 26 months old. Audi Cork did the labour, Audi picked up 70% of the cost of the valve. Left me about €90 to,pay, AFAIR.

Got onto Audi. They want to do the diagnosis themselves at a fee of €90 but seeing as we have a full history with them they will waive part or all of that few along with a complimentary taxi into the city centre. In fairness so far so good but we shall see Friday week when we bring it in.

Forgot to update. They diagnosed a cracked egr but said it was working fine and not to worry. No fee and a free mini valet.

    So What's causing the smell?

The mother hit a bird and it was assumed that some of said bird got stuck in the engine bay somewhere.

My egr valve failed, 106tdi 2010. The valve is attached to a cooler in my car, its a 500 euro part, Audi replaced it for free (i had no warranty), however i got absolutely hammered on labour - this is with Joe duffy audi aka north dublin. 700 quid labour, nuts! best of luck

The plastic casing surrounding the valve. The valve itself is fine. We just had it back in with them for the final service in the service plan today as it happens and it was rechecked. No problems.

I think he got fobbed off with bogus generosity. If something was cracked why was it not replaced regardless of whether it is working at the moment?

The labour on these is a killer, new VAG CR has them right down the back between the engine and the bulkhead so a nightmare to get to. Older PD model had it at the front so very handy to remove and you could chance cleaning it. New ones due to access are better off replaced so you don't have to revisit and seem like cleaning is not that successfull.

They seem to fail randomly on the CR engines, as in its not a specific mileage range, some have gone at low mileages (15-20k) others at High (90k) and there is no way to check them. Some UK forums seem to be linking failures to lower cost / discount diesel but I don't know if thats a factor. Typically they gunk up and motor fails or starts sticking.

Definitely push for goodwill as if not its around a 1k repair.

But nothing is giving trouble... Car is running fine. The smell was investigated and egr was looked at as a possible culprit. Plastic surround was cracked but egr is functioning perfectly. I fail to see an issue..

If the housing is cracked I'd be trying to get it sorted with some sort of goodwill even if you had to make a small contribution. The lonegr you leave it the less likely you have of getting anything. If they won't then just wait and hope its lasts till the car is sold or it goes whicjever happens first.

The valve itself is in the reqion of €400 ex VAT and then a few more € for gaskets. Labour is 4.5 hours based on some of the UK posts so in Audi money thats another 450-500 and I don't know if thats inc or ex VAT.

BTW - I know this as I'm replacing one right now on a 2.0 CR TDI with 90k miles
