    Hi All,

We are moving to Dublin in September and I have two 8 year old kids. Is it too late to register the kids for the school? Can anyone recommend any good schools that will have space for the next semester? I will be going to Dublin 1 so closer to town would be better for me, but anywhere along the Dart/Luas line or decent bus route would be ok too. After we settle with the school, I will look for a place to live near by. I don't know Dublin at all, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

We went through this process last year around June/July -trying to enrol a child in a Dublin school.

Each school has their own enrolment policy which they must adhere to. You can usually access this online. Generally it gives priority to those in their catchment area (an area which they define) with siblings already in the school, then those in the area without attending siblings, then those outside the area. If you are looking at a Catholic school they will also give priority to Catholic children.

We were returning from abroad and have a house in Dublin 15 area. We were looking for a space for Junior Infants (intake year). I contacted the 4 schools closest to us. Three of them said no chance. One told me that enrolment was in February and we'd missed it. (We didn't been know we'd be returning in February!). One school said they'd take our enrolment but said that we'd be 30th on the waiting list. I pointed out we were Catholics living less than 300m from the school and she agreed if I could provide proof of address we should get a place. So from my experience you might find it tough to get a place and you should be prepared to beg!!

It really depends on the school.
I would ring every school in the areas that you are interested in.

    It really depends on area.
